The chemical used for evaluating kidney function is creatinine, not creatine. The level of creatinine in blood serum should be around 1.0 mg/dl. The creatinine level of randomly collected urine sample is not dependable because of variation in water intake. However, if all the urine samples are collected in a 24 hours period, that creatinine value can be useful in evaluating kidney function. 

There is also a urine creatinine/albumin ratio test which also can reflect on the efficiency of your kidney function. GFR is Glomerular Filtration Rate. This value is calculated from the serum creatinine level, age, race. Children under 18 have a different equation. GFR is not useful for patient on IV and/or under some medications.
